Hearing aid technology has improved dramatically over the years. In this video, CNC Hearing and Balance Center Neurotologist Moises Arriaga explains why behind-the-ear hearing aids are positioned there, as opposed to inside the ear canal, like they used to be.
“We figured that we were going to hide the hearing aid in the ear but what we ended up doing was plugging up people’s ears. We were interfering with the low tones, the part of the hearing that they still had and we finally wised up. Now most people’s hearing aids look something like this, with the device behind the ear. You can’t see very much and the idea is to not totally block up that ear canal and that is working in a much better way.”
